Song or calls:
Utters a hoarse “kla-ha, kla-ha, kla-ha” and “u-lugh, u-lugh” when flying from place to place.

Description: Sexes similar. Adult head and hindneck white; chin and throat black; pinkish or purplish bill; black and white edging to silvery gray plumage creates a scaled effect below; upperparts appear barred. Juvenile similar, but has dark head, hindneck and bill.

Habitat: Usually found in tidewater marsh and tundra; winters on seashores and reefs.

Where in Nebraska: Accidental in spring.
