Generally silent; call is a low, reedy “ung-unk.”

Description: Sexes similar. Grayish-brown with plain underparts, orange legs and feet; darker head and neck noticeable in flight. Bill black with yellow, orange, or pink midsection, usually without white area at base. Wetlands, grassy fields and grain fields. Accidental in spring and winter.

Habitat: Wetlands, grassy fields and grain fields.

Where in Nebraska: Accidental in spring and winter. Eurasian species. One individual was reported with Snow Geese at DeSoto Bend NWR in winter 1984-1985. Another single bird was documented at Funk Lagoon in 1998.

Fun Facts: Bean Geese get their common and scientific name from their past behavior of grazing in bean field stubble.
