Description: Sexes similar. Adult has gray face with white eye ring, red bill. Legs pink or red; belly, rump and tail black; breast chestnut. Juvenile is paler, with gray bill.


Habitat: Woodland streams, ponds and marshes.

Where in Nebraska: In Nebraska, look for Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks in late May and October in the Rainwater Basin. Rare casual summer and fall visitor.

Field Notes: Normally found in Texas, Arizona and Mexico.
